Filming is officially underway in North Carolina’s Wilmington Region on The Longest Ride, the latest Nicholas Sparks novel-turned-movie.
Starring Scott Eastwood (Gran Torino, The Trouble With The Curve, Texas Chainsaw 3D), Britt Roberson (NC-filmed Under The Dome, The First Time, Scream 4), Oona Chaplin (Game of Thrones, Quantum of Solace) and recently added Alan Alda (M*A*S*H, What Women Want), the story involves the lives of a young couple (Eastwood, Roberson) that intertwine with a much older man (Alda) as he reflects on a lost love following an automobile crash. T
he film adaption is being directed by George Tillman, Jr (Faster, Soul Food).
Principle photography is scheduled to run into August with overall production lasting a little more than 175 days in the state.
In addition to Wilmington, the production will be filming in and around Winston-Salem and Jacksonville.
Produced by FOX 2000, The Longest Ride chose North Carolina in part due to its strong crew base and infrastructure, variety of locations, and the state’s current 25% refundable tax credit offered to productions.
The Longest Ride is one of 30-plus productions that have to date filmed or will begin filming in North Carolina in 2014. All together, these productions anticipate having a total direct in-state spend in excess of $260 million while providing more than 19,000 job opportunities, including approximately 3,300 possible positions for the state’s highly-skilled crew base.
This is the fourth Nicholas Sparks movie adaptation to be filmed in North Carolina, following A Walk to Remember in 2001, Nights in Rodanthe in 2007, and Safe Haven in 2012.
The Longest Ride is set to open in theaters on April 3, 2015.
